Bali is an Indonesian island lying between Java to the west and Lombok to the east. It is one of the country's 33 provinces with the provincial capital at Denpasar towards the south of the island.
With a population recorded as 3,151,000 in 2005, the island is home to the vast majority of Indonesia's small Hindu minority. 93.18% of Bali's population adheres to Balinese Hinduism, while most of the remainder follow Islam.
It is also the largest tourist destination in the country and is renowned for its highly developed arts, including dance, sculpture, painting, leather, metalworking and music.

North Bali

North Bali comprises the single administrative district of Buleleng, stretching the entire north coast of Bali. The town Singaraja was the Dutch capital of Bali during Bali’s occupation by the Dutch, and many old Dutch warehouses are at present day still standing in this quiet Bali town. Lovina Bali beach forms part of Bali’s north coast, and it is famous for being a Bali beach with black volcanic sand. Off this Bali beach are colorful corals beneath clear seawaters. The dolphin tours in Lovina Bali enable you to spot black dolphins frolicking in the north Bali seas.

South Bali

Most of the action in Bali happens in the south. Kuta, Seminyak, Legian, Sanur, Jimbaran and Nusa Dua are familiar to both new and returning visitors of Bali. Kuta beach area is good for beginner surfing, Bali nightlife entertainment and Bali souvenir shopping. Also known as the surfer or backpacker’s hangout of Bali, Kuta accommodation is made up of Bed & Breakfasts, hostels and small inns.
Tuban is often mistaken for Kuta, but it is essentially the stretch of Jalan Kartika Plaza where Waterbom Bali, Discovery Shopping Mall, and many restaurants stand.

North of Kuta is Legian, a quieter alternative to Kuta Bali. While Kuta Bali is busier and has direct access to the Bali beach, Legian’s shore is dotted with bungalows, villas, hotels and some home-stays.
All the hip boutiques, chic cafes and trendy eateries in Bali are located in Seminyak. Even the nightlife here is more up-market, offering drinks like Cosmopolitan and champagne instead of plain old G&T or vodka with lime. The accommodations in Seminyak are equally stylish, ranging from boutique hotels to private villas and beachfront resorts.

Sanur sits quietly on the southeast coast of Bali. Previously a Balinese fishing village, Sanur still retains its laidback atmosphere. The waters here are calmer than in Kuta Bali, contributing to a peaceful aura that draws expatriate retirees, families, and older travelers to this part of Bali. Also found in Sanur is Bali’s oldest artifact, a stone pillar with Sanskrit inscriptions depicting military victories on Bali more than 1,000 years ago.
Bali’s southern peninsula has become a tourism hotspot in Bali in recent years. Jimbaran gained prominence after the bomb incidents of 2005 on Bali’s Muana beach where the al fresco seafood kiosks stand. Memories of this incident in Bali are still new, but the fresh seafood grilled over coconut husks are too delicious to make people stay away from this part of Bali for long.

The story goes that Nusa Dua was conceived on Bali as an all-inclusive, luxury tourist enclave to contain as many travelers to Bali as possible. Although popular with visitors to Bali looking for luxury resort experiences in Bali, Nusa Dua also boasts world-glass golf greens in Bali, camel rides and indulgent spa experiences.

North of Nusa Dua is Tanjung Benoa, a stretch of Bali that is multi-denominational religions as evidenced by a Hindu temple, Chinese temple, Mosque and Christian church built in close proximity in Bali.
